TYPES OF INTERPRETATION

Simultantolkning i kabin. Interprex Scandinavia.

SIMULTANEOUS INTERPRETATION

The interpreters normally work in twos, two in each booth, and they take turns interpreting into their respective languages. They interpret while the speaker speaks, in real time, and the listeners listen using a headset. A skilled interpreting technician ensures that everything runs smoothly throughout the meeting. This type of interpreting is common for meetings with many listeners, for example, congresses, conferences, EWC meetings, company strategy and kick off events, lectures and party leader debates.

CHUCHOTAGE/WHISPERED INTERPRETATION

Whispered interpretation or chuchotage is like simultaneous interpretation but without the booth. The interpreter might sit next to or just behind one or two participants, or he/she may use mobile equipment with a microphone for the interpreter and headsets for the listeners. Mobile equipment is useful for study visits when touring a factory or for a guided tour.

Konsekutivtolkning. Interprex Scandinavia.

CONSECUTIVE INTERPRETATION

For consecutive interpretation, the speaker and interpreter take turns - the speaker speaks first then the interpreter steps in. This may involve interpreting 10-minute speeches, which requires a very skilled professional interpreter with a good memory and good note-taking technique.
Consecutive interpretation can be used for a speech made on a stage to a large audience. The interpreter either stands on the stage together with the speaker or nearby at a standing table.
